Senate Must Pass Veterans Affairs Accountability Act

“The Senate must put aside partisan obstructionism and pass the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability Act promptly”, said Peter J. Thomas, Chairman of The Conservative Caucus, following House passage of the bill on Wednesday.

“Our veterans deserve the best care that a grateful nation can provide.  It is inexcusable that some have suffered from long delays, and perhaps even died for lack of necessary care.  Any VA official found to be responsible for this shameful behavior must be removed at once.”

The Accountability Act would allow the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to remove Senior Executive Service level officials for poor performance, bypassing the usual lengthy procedure.

The House of Representatives passed the bill (HR 4031) on Wednesday on a strong bipartisan vote of 390 to 33.  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has not commented on whether he will bring it to the Senate floor for a vote.

The Conservative Caucus is a grass roots public policy action organization, formed in 1974.  It was active in defeating the SALT II Treaty, repealing the Catastrophic Coverage Act, blocking the Clinton health-care takeover, impeaching President Clinton, and stopping amnesty for illegal aliens.

The Conservative Caucus is a public policy organization, contributions to which are not tax deductible. The IRS has determined TCC to be a 501(c)(4) organization, exempt from Federal income tax. TCC can receive corporate donations.
