After so many years when Federal courts have often chosen to ignore the Constitution, President Trump now has a chance to give us a Supreme Court on which only Chief Justice John Roberts is a little bit doubtful. Trump can establish a majority that guarantees the Constitution will be followed most of the time.
However, there will be a fight over this nomination. Democrats will try to hold all 49 of their senators in line to vote no, while looking to pick off at least one of the anti-Trump GOP senators. We must not think that any Trump nominee is sure to be confirmed. Expect a long and bitter war over filling this vacancy.
