Congress Should Pass HUMANE Act to Deal with Border Crisis

Congress should pass the HUMANE Act, a bipartisan bill sponsored by Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Henry Cuellar, to resolve the illegal immigration crisis on the Mexican border, said Peter J. Thomas, Chairman of The Conservative Caucus.

The bill would remove the special treatment currently being exploited by teenagers and children who illegally cross the Mexican border and are then released into the unmonitored custody of relatives or friends.  Once released, they rarely appear at deportation hearings.

Additional immigration judges would be provided to hear these cases in order to meet the increased need.

Thomas expressed some concern about the authorization of additional funds for spending by an administration that has been reluctant to fully enforce the existing laws, and encouraged congressional appropriators to closely monitor the required reports on how it is being spent and the results achieved.

The Conservative Caucus is a grass-roots, public policy action organization, founded in 1974.  It was active in defeating the SALT II Treaty, repealing the Catastrophic Coverage Act, blocking the Clinton health-care takeover, preventing passage of amnesty for illegal aliens and persuading the House of Representatives to sue President Obama.

The Conservative Caucus is a public policy organization, contributions to which are not tax deductible. The IRS has determined TCC to be a 501(c)(4) organization, exempt from Federal income tax. TCC can receive corporate donations.
