The following letter to the editor has been sent out by Americans for Constitutional Liberty.
To the editor:
Republicans in Congress are learning that appeasement only leads to demands for more appeasement.
Three months ago, Democrats threatened to cut off all funding for the Department of Homeland Security unless the bill contained exactly what they wanted. Republicans put up a brief show of opposition, then surrendered.
Now Senate Democrats are saying that they will use the filibuster to cut off all discretionary funding for government agencies unless Congress increases the funding levels. President Obama has threatened to use his veto to cut off all funding to the Department of Defense unless the bill is written to his specifications. He has also threatened to veto any bill responding to a Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare if it is not exactly what he demands.
Republicans need to realize that it is time to draw a line. Call the Democrat’s bluff. Will they really shut down much of the government? Will they really refuse to fund the Department of Defense? Will they really leave millions without any form of tax credits for health insurance?
The Republican Congress was elected to provide opposition to the liberal Democratic agenda. It is time that kept their campaign promises and stopped appeasing Obama.
