The President has said that he would be willing to declare a “national emergency” if Congress refuses to work to fund the wall and end the government shutdown. While some have said this would be illegal, John Malcolm, vice president of the Institute for Constitutional Government writes at the Daily Signal that, “Trump has a strong argument to make that he, in fact, has the authority to act unilaterally.”
Since Democrats have refused to negotiate with Trump on border wall funding, the government shutdown is now the longest in history, stretching past three weeks.
